Three types of pain

Nociceptive pain: It is the type of pain associated with tissue damage – injury or inflammation. It can be somatic pain or visceral pain. Somatic pain is the type of pain associated with the musculoskeletal system, and visceral pain is the type of pain associated with visceral organs, such as the pancreas and gut. Examples of nociceptive pain may include rheumatoid arthritis, ankle sprain, and osteoarthritis.

Neuropathic pain: It is the type of pain associated with neural damage. It can be peripheral neuropathic pain or central neuropathic pain. Examples of neuropathic pain may include complex regional pain syndrome, Carpal tunnel syndrome, and diabetic neuropathy.

Nociplastic pain is the type of pain that is associated with central nervous system dysfunction. Examples of nociceptive pain may include nonspecific low back pain, temporomandibular disorder, and fibromyalgia.
