Parkinson-like effects – Nursing assessments and considerations

Parkinson-like effects could be associated with tremors, akinesia (impairment or loss of the power of performing voluntary movement), drooling (spilling of saliva form mouth), rigidity, changes in gait, akathisia (extreme type of restlessness), and dyskinesia (Spasm – abnormality in the performance of voluntary muscle movements).

In case of Parkinson-like effects, nurses may consider working on anticholinergic medications, antiparkinson medications, and safety measures to deal with the problem of gait changes.
