AT&T has reported strong potential earnings in the 1Q 2012

AT&T, the largest telecommunications group in U.S., has reported the strong earnings in first quarter ending March 31, which are mostly caused by smartphone sales and higher mobile data revenues.

AT&T has generated about $31.8 billion in revenue showing a gain of $575 million, or 1.8 percent, compared to the first quarter of 2011. Moreover, the company has announced a profit of $3.6 billion during the period, up from the $3.4 billion it generated in the first quarter of 2011.

The company has sold about 5.5 million smartphones last quarter, which accounted for 78 percent of all postpaid device sales. Smartphones was the device of about 59.3% of AT&T’s wireless subscribers that is up from 46.2% last year. The company has activated about 4.3 million iPhones during that period.

“We continue to capitalize on our terrific momentum in mobile Internet,” AT&T chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson said today in a statement. “Smartphone and branded computing device sales continue to set a record pace, mobile data revenues were up nearly 20 percent, and we achieved this growth with expanding margins. These results add confidence in our outlook for the year.”
