Coffee

A new research from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, and Wuhan Institue of Biotechnology in China shows that coffee drinkers have less chances of developing a number of diseases in which following disease are at the top;

Type-2 diabetes:

Researchers showed that if a person drinks 4 cups of coffee, he has a 50% lower risk of type-2 diabetes. Researchers have found the protective benefits of coffee compounds that have the ability to stop a substances referred to as human islet amyloid polypeptide (hiAPP), which has been found to be linked to diabetes.

“These findings suggest that the beneficial effects of coffee consumption on type 2 diabetes mellitus may be partly due to the ability of the major coffee components and metabolites to inhibit the toxic aggregation of hIAPP (human islet amyloid polypeptide),” Ling Zheng, professor of cellular biology at Wuhan University in China, and colleagues wrote.

Prostate Cancer:

A year ago, Harvard University researchers showed that drinking coffee can lower the risk of fatal prostate cancer and also reduce the risk of developing estrogen receptor-negative breast cancer by 57%. It also lowered the risk of oral, esophageal and pharyngeal cancer. However, in ovarian cancer no benefit was found.

Alzheimer’s disease:

Coffee is also a possible treatment for Alzheimer’s disease as researchers showed that moderate coffee drinkers have less chance to develop Alzheimer’s disease.

In addition to Alzheimer’s disease, the risk of dementia also reduces by moderate use of coffee i.e. 3-5 cups per day.

Liver protection:

The incidence of cirrhosis of liver can also be reduced by moderate coffee intake.

However, coffee lowers the risk of multiple disease but still doctors recommend moderate drinking of coffee as much of its use can cause insomnia, anxiety and upset stomach.
