World's Largest Insect; Giant Weta

World’s largest insect has been discovered in New Zealand. It is Giant weta and is a cricket-like creature having a wingspan of about seven inches.

This strange huge insect has been discovered by entomologist Mark Moffett, 53, after searching for two days in New Zealand’s Little Barrier Island. The species was previously found on mainland in New Zealand but virtually came to an end by the introduction of rats by Europeans.

“She enjoyed the carrot so much she seemed to ignore the fact she was resting on our hands and carried on munching away,” Moffett said in a press release. “She would have finished the carrot very quickly, but this is an extremely endangered species and we didn’t want to risk indigestion.”

Moffett reported that the weight of the creature is about three times of the mice.
