According to recent reports, BMW is working on a new i3 electric vehicle to be launched in the year 2017. This new/updated vehicle will come with improved car range and updated design.

For the past few years, electric vehicles have seen better business, but BMW has not gotten that level of success in the auto market. Although the company is producing i3 electric vehicles for few years, the fame did not get much improvement. However, it can be considered that updated design and improved range of car could give a boost to fame and business.

According to the reports of German Publication, Welt am Soontag, new BMW i3 model will come with redesigned front and rear ends. However, with no images, still in the reports, it is unclear, how the new BMW i3 will look like.

The reports also show that the new BMW will have novel battery technology that will help in having a longer range. Presently, BMW i3 can go for about 114 miles per full charge, but the improved range would help in going up to 180 miles. Although there is no report of exact improved range but Welt am Soontag reports that the range would see an increase of no more than 50%; thereby, showing that the new BMW i3 could have a range below 200 miles. This range is still below the range of some other electric vehicles such as Tesla’s Model S that can go up to 300 miles on a single charge. However, electric vehicles of BMW have an advantage of more affordability as compared to Tesla’s vehicles.

BMW has also plans to work on self-driving (autonomous) vehicles. The company has also partnered with Mobileye and Intel to develop an open platform for autonomous vehicles by the year 2021.
