Samsung’s reported overall quarterly revenue reached a new record of $52.04 billion

Samsung has reported a remarkable fourth quarter (Q4) 2012 results. The company has posted 8.84 trillion won ($8.27 billion) in consolidated operating profit that is nearly twice of that reported by the company for the same period in 2011.

Overall revenue also increased by 18.5% from the same period last year showing the value of 56.06 trillion won ($52.04 billion).

The figures came slightly above than the expectations of the company.

Samsung has reported the strong sales of tablets and smartphones especially Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II, the sales of which crossed the 30 million and 5 million units respectively. The Mobile Communications business of the company resulted in more than half of the total revenue with 27.23 trillion won ($25.5 billion) that is up from the previous quarter.

Consumer Electronics business brought 740 million won ($691 million) in operating profits to the company i.e. up 87% on the previous quarter. Semiconductor business also performed well with 1.42 billion won ($1.33 billion) in operating profits i.e. up 39% quarter-on-quarter.

The company has also noted increased revenue in its LED TV business and more sales of the high-end home appliances such as refrigerator. However, Display Panel making business is working hard as the demands for notebook and monitor panels have lowered.

“Despite uncertainties in Europe and concerns over the U.S. fiscal cliff creating a difficult business environment, we did our best this quarter to achieve strong earnings based on a strategic focus on differentiated and high value-added products as well as our technological competitiveness,” said Robert Yi, senior VP and head of investor relations.
