Tumblr, a light-blogging service, is more popular in teens and young adults as compared to Facebook as shown by the survey done by Y Combinator partner Garry Tan.
Tan used the Y Combinator Company called Survata Company and surveyed 1,038 people in two groups with 546 responses from the age group of 13-18 years and 492 responses from the age group of 19-25 years. He asked the users about the services they use regularly, i.e. several hours per week or more. Users were able to give multiple answers.
The survey showed that nearly 61% of teenagers use Tumblr on regular basis as compared to 55% for Facebook. The numbers were lowered for both for the users in the age range of 19-25. Survey further showed that about three times fewer people use Twitter and Instagram in these age groups representing nearly the same popularity of Twitter and Instagram among teens. Snapchat, an app on Apple app store, is also getting attraction from the users.
There is good level of difference between the users of Instagram and Snapchat in age groups between the 13 to 18 and 19 to 25 years of age.
Tan said in a blog post, “The biggest differences were for Snapchat (13% for 13-18yr olds vs 4% for 19-25yr olds) and Instagram (21% vs 11%).”
This research shows that if you want to advertise among the youngsters start from Tumblr.
