Apple’s smaller screen iPad would be launched soon

Apple Inc. is ready to make smaller tablets for mass production in September. The Wall Street Journal has reported that launch of the device is near.

People familiar with the situation reported that the tablet’s screen is smaller than eight inches whereas the original iPad’s screen is 9.7 inches and this is unchanged since its first release in 2010.

One source has reported that Apple is working with LG Display Co. of South Korea and Taiwan-based AU Optronics Co. to make screens.

According to experts, smaller screen tablets would help the company to maintain its dominance in tablet market as the consumer’s choice is varying according to the size, technical specifications and price. Last week, Google started taking orders for its seven inch Nexus 7 tablet at $199.

According to market research firm IHS iSuppli, iPad’s share in the tablet market was 62% last year, which will increase this year.
