National Institute of Information and Communications Technolog (NICT) has developed a new cyber-attack alert system, dubbed Daedalus.
Daedalus is able to show the network attacks in real time. The interface shows Internet in the center while the surrounding circles show networks under observation. 3D graphics in the interface shows the state of an attack, which can be viewed from any standpoint.
[hana-code-insert name=’StumbleUpon’ /][hana-code-insert name=’Reddit’ /]The company has already developed a system to observe cyber-attacks referred to as nicter. Moreover, the company built an observation network in Japan to cover IP addresses not utilized in nicter. That observation network is called as Darknet Observation Network. Daedalus is using the same observation network and working as an alert system.
Daedalus can help in improving network security within the organizations.
“The blue part in this organization shows IP addresses that are used, and the black part shows addresses that are not used. This character indicates an alert. When you click on the alert, a message showing the cause appears. In this case, only two packets have been sent. But because the packets go from an address that’s used to an address that’s not used, this indicates that a virus is starting to spread within the organization.”
“If this kind of situation is input to our observation network, we can observe it, and find out things like that. The system automatically sends an alert, saying, ‘This IP address of yours is spreading a virus using this protocol at this time’.”
This technology will be transferred to clwit that will include it in the commercial alert service referred to as SiteVisor. This system will also be served to the educational institutions, where nictor sensors can be installed, free of charge.
