Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, former minister for Science and Technology and former Chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan, has been elected as a Foreign Honorary Member of Turkish Science Academy (TUBA).
He has more than 843 publications in organic chemistry including 663 research publications, 18 patents, 103 books and 59 chapters in books. He is currently working as the Coordinator General of COMSTECH and is also the president of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences.

He won the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Science Prize in 1999. Several universities have conferred him honorary doctorate degrees such as Cambridge University in 1987, Coventry University in 2007, Bradford University and the Asian Institute of Technology in 2010.
He has also been awarded with several national awards such as Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in 1983, Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 1991, Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 1998, and the highest national civil award Nishan-i-Imtiaz in 2002.
