The consumer watchdog wants the court to call the company to rectify the ads, refund any affected buyers and enforce penalties.
ACCC has reported,
The ACCC alleges that Apple’s recent promotion of the new “iPad with WiFi + 4G” is misleading because it represents to Australian consumers that the product “iPad with WiFi + 4G” can, with a SIM card, connect to a 4G mobile data network in Australia, when this is not the case.
Paul Anastassiou, Apple barrister, told the Federal Court in Melbourne that the emails will be sent by the company to the buyers offering refunds.
Apple reported that the new iPad has WiFi + 4G connectivity but Australia’s only 4G network, run by Telstra Corp., operates on different frequency to the 4G on the third generation of Apple’s iPad. The company has also said that it will also tell on the sale point that although the new iPad has 4G capability but it is unable to connect to local 4G networks.
