U.S. Plastic surgeries are on the rise; Report

Plastic surgery

A group of surgeons have said on Thursday that the number of Americans undergoing plastic surgeries is increasing for second consecutive year despite difficult financial times.

It has been reported that 13.8 million surgeries from facelifts to anti-wrinkle injections have been performed in 2011 in the U.S. i.e. up 5% as compared to the year 2010.

“While the rate of economic recovery in the US is still uncertain, 2011 proved to be a good year for plastic surgery,” said American Society of Plastic Surgeons president Malcolm Roth.

“Consumer confidence was up, auto sales rose 10 percent, so it is not surprising that we would also see increased demand for plastic surgery procedures.”

According to the report, facelifts were among the top five procedures since 2004. Some other important procedures were nose reshaping and eyelid surgery.

Among men the procedure of removing the double chin effect of extra neck skin became almost doubled in 2011 as compared to the previous year. There were 21000 such procedures.

Lip augmentation also increased by 49% to more than 25000.

According to the report, reduced invasive procedures caused the increase of 6% to almost 12.2 million procedures in 2011. Among the popular protocols were Botox injections, chemical peels, laser hair removal and soft tissue fillers to remove laugh lines and wrinkles.
