Venus Williams, aged 31 is an American professional tennis player, moved out of Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Wednesday after being diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome. Sjögren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disorder resulting in Joint pain and fatigue.
Venus Williams is a two time open titlist and seven time major champion. She played eleven matches on the women’s tour this year. She turned professional in October 31, 1994.
Venus Williams showed disappointment on withdrawing from the court and said
“I enjoyed playing my first match here and wish I could continue, but right now I am unable to. I am thankful I finally have a diagnosis and am now focused on getting better and returning to the court soon.”
Sjögren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disorder and affects the glands producing saliva and tears. It has been found that 90% of Sjögren’s patients are women.
