Some Foods are better in Reducing Cholesterol Level

nutsAccording to a study published in the Journal of American Medical Association, cholesterol lowering diets such as tree nuts, soy products and large amounts of fiber from barley, oats and vegetables are significantly helpful in lowering bad cholesterol (i.e. Low Density Lipoprotein, LDL).

Researchers have found that there is 13% decrease in LDL cholesterol levels in people consuming healthy diet containing cholesterol lowering foods.

Doctors normally prescribe cholesterol lowering drugs (Statins) and lower their food consumption containing saturated fats such as butter, ice cream and red meat and this study is clearly showing that to lower cholesterol level, it is more important to consider what you eat than what you don’t.

Remember higher level of cholesterol doubles the chances of heart attack and stroke. Research has shown that 5 servings of nuts in a week, that equals to 26 to 31 g/d, has decreased the incidents of Coronary Heart disease (CHD) by 40-60%.
